Tossing tomatoes at prostate health problems can be beneficial, studies have shown.
If men have concerns about their prostate health, some studies have shown that they can toss tomatoes at their problems.
Just like they can be used to dismiss poor actors from the stage, tomatoes can be used to clear off prostate problems. As a matter of fact, it is a particular part of the tomato and other foods that helps in this battle. Medical tests are proving that adding cooked tomatoes to a well-balanced diet can lessen the risk of contracting prostate cancer, with some impressive results. It turns out that the hero in this struggle to prevent prostate cancer is lycopene, which is readily found in tomatoes.
Generally, lycopene is also sought after as a preventative against other types of cancer. But lycopene has been shown as the brightest star when it comes to the task of preventing prostate cancer.
During a recent clinical trial of 47,000 participants, there was a 16 per cent decrease of prostate cancer in men who ate copious amounts of tomatoes. This decrease approached 23 per cent if the men who ate tomatoes also ate two weekly servings of tomato sauce. Still more clinical trials prove the number of cases of prostate cancer development declined 57 per cent in participants who had high levels of lycopene in their blood.
Even though there is still some debate over studies of lycopene in men who already showed signs of prostate irregularities when they began the trials, there is still proof that lycopene is powerful in preventing maladies. And there are other choices besides tomatoes and tomato sauce when it comes to ingesting lycopene, though the latter are most favoured. Other foods that have large quantities of lycopene are watermelon, pink grapefruit and apricots. But the reason why tomatoes are usually chosen over these and other foods is because tests have shown that lycopene levels rise when foods containing it are cooked.
There is a surprising amount of evidence that eating foods laced with lycopene can significantly assist in keeping one’s prostate in tip-top shape, even though it has not be shown as a 100 per cent cure. But studies have proven that if a man has concerns about his prostate health, the answer may be throwing some tomatoes into his diet!
